HON. EZECHI'S BILL FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AGRICULTURAL AND ENERGY TECHNICAL INSTITUTE, ABOH, DELTA STATE PASSES SECOND READING IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

On 21st May 2024 , Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, Member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani in the House of Representatives, successfully took the second reading of the bill for an Act to amend the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria Act, CAP. A12 laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. This amendment aims to establish the Agricultural and Energy Technical Institute in Aboh, Delta State, creating a crucial synergy between Nigeria's agricultural and energy sectors.

In his presentation, Hon. Ezechi underscored the pivotal role of agriculture in Nigeria's sustainable development and economic prosperity. He highlighted that agriculture is the backbone of the nation, providing food security, employment opportunities, and significantly contributing to the GDP. He stressed that to harness the full potential of the agricultural sector, there is an urgent need for innovative approaches, modern techniques, and specialized training.

The establishment of the Agricultural and Energy Technical Institute in Aboh is a significant step towards achieving this goal. The institute will integrate agricultural and energy studies, equipping the youth with the skills and knowledge to bridge the gap between traditional farming methods and modern technologies. Hon. Ezechi emphasized that Aboh, with its fertile land and abundant natural resources, is an ideal location for the institute. By leveraging the synergy between agriculture and energy, new opportunities for sustainable development, rural electrification, and renewable energy solutions can be unlocked.

Hon. Ezechi further highlighted that the bill aligns with the government's agenda to diversify the economy and promote self-sufficiency in food production. Through research, training, and extension services, the institute will empower farmers, agripreneurs, and rural communities to adopt best practices, increase productivity, and enhance livelihoods. The economic benefits of this initiative will serve as a catalyst for innovation, technology transfer, and collaboration between academia, industry, and government agencies. This will unlock the untapped potential of the agricultural and energy sectors, driving sustainable growth and prosperity for generations to come.

Hon. Ezechi urged his colleagues to support the bill, viewing it as an investment in the future of agriculture in Nigeria. Consequently, the bill was put to a voice vote and was successfully passed by the House of Representatives. It has now passed its second reading and has been referred to the House Committee on Agricultural Colleges for further legislative action.
