On the 7th of May 2024, after an extended hiatus, Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, the distinguished Member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani federal constituency of Delta State in the House of Representatives, presented a legislative bill and a petition.
The bill is for An Act to Amend the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria Act, Cap. A12, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to make provision for the establishment of Federal College of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Utagba-Uno, Ndokwa West, Local Government Area, Delta State. (HB. 1312). Overall, this bill presents a strategic investment in education, economic development, and resource utilization that will have far-reaching benefits for Nigeria's fishery and aquaculture subsectors of the agricultural sector, as well as for the local community and the nation as a whole. The bill successful passed its first reading today.
Also, Hon. Ezechi presented a petition on behalf of a constituent, Mr. Gwede Harrison, a cadet ASP in the law department at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano. The petition addressed the matter of Harrison's alleged unjust dismissal from the institution. Mr. Gwede, a 400 level law cadet, was falsely accused of theft in May 2023, leading to his unfortunate unlawful dismissal.
The petition seeks the intervention of the House of Representatives for his rightful reinstatement. The petition has been duly received and forwarded to the House Committee on Public Petitions for review.
