HON. NNAMDI EZECHI MARKS TWO YEARS IN OFFICE, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF NDOKWA/UKWUANI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY.

Today, 13th June, 2025, I reflect on two years of stewardship as the elected representative of the good people of Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. It is a moment of gratitude, accountability, and renewed commitment to the mandate graciously entrusted to me by my constituents.

In the past two years, my legislative and constituency focus has remained firmly rooted in education, healthcare, infrastructure, power, and youth development—areas essential to lifting our constituency into greater progress.

EDUCATION: Education remains a critical pillar of my interventions. Within this short time, we have executed and furnished significant classroom infrastructure projects across the three Local Government Areas of the constituency:

• Egboma Mixed Secondary School, Akoku Uno: Construction of a block of 6 classrooms.

• Oluchi Primary School, Okpai: Construction of 1 block of 4 classrooms and 4 toilets.

• Mixed Secondary School, Onicha Ukwuani: Another 1 block of 4 classrooms and 4 toilets.

We also distributed laptops to selected government-owned secondary schools to improve digital literacy among students.

Looking ahead, 2025 will see further investment in educational infrastructure. New classroom blocks will be constructed in:

• Ebologu Grammar School, Utagba Uno

• Ethiope Primary School, Obiaruku

• Oduga Secondary School, Ushie

• Onuaboh Secondary School, Onuaboh — a modern 6-classroom block with furnishings

SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE: Through collaboration with the Delta State Government, the collapsed Asaba-Ase to Uzere bridge in Ndokwa East has been awarded and the contractor has been mobilised to site to commence construction. 

As part of my intervention,;

• The Azunze Market in Kwale has been constructed and completed. 

• Solar-powered streetlights have been installed across various communities including Utagba-Uno, Emu Obodoeti, Okpai, and Ossissa. This year, installations will extend to Aboh, Ezionum, Utagba-Ogbe, Ibrede, Onogbokor, and others.

• Plans are underway to provide solar-powered water boreholes to Abbi and other communities lacking access to potable water.

HEALTHCARE: Through my intervention, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has approved and included in the their budget the construction and furnishing of a health centre in Utchi, clan, Ndokwa East LGA. As part of our 2025 intervention plan, we are rolling out medical outreach programs for the elderly in rural communities. These will include free checkups, drugs, and preventive screenings for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis. Our goal is to bring compassionate healthcare to the doorsteps of those who need it most.

HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT: Through partnerships with key federal agencies, we’ve trained and empowered youths in confectionery, ICT, and soap-making, accompanied by financial grants to help them establish small businesses. Tailors, barbers, tricycle operators, and hairdressers have received equipments of trade through our intervention. The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), through my office, empowered 30 Ndokwa youths through the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative of the agency. These empowerment schemes will continue and expand in 2025 to reach more beneficiaries across the constituency. 

ELECTRIFICATION: The electrification of Ndokwa communities has been a centerpiece of my legislative agenda. The long-stalled IPP Phase 2 project in Okpai and associated infrastructure remain a top priority for us. 

Through a series of motions and engagements, I have ensured:

• Initially, 22 out of 47 transmission towers on the Okpai–Kwale 132KV Double Circuit Transmission Line have already been erected before the project stalled.

• The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) recently conducted a site assessment and is working to resume full construction. 

In addition, following my intervention:

• The Federal Government approved the reinforcement of the 33KV line from Utagba-Ogbe to Ashaka and Ogume to Utagba-Ogbe, complementing the Delta State Government’s ongoing efforts to restore electricity to Ndokwa land.

LEGISLATION: In the last two years, I have initiated several important bills and moved impactful motions in the House, one of such bills is the bill for the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, Kwale, which has successfully passed third reading in the House of Representatives, and will now be converted and repurposed into a new bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Kwale.

This new bill will be processed concurrently with the ongoing bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, to ensure both institutions are legally backed and can operate in tandem as a complete medical education and healthcare delivery system.

The university is already operational via executive order, but the bill, now nearing passage, will enshrine it into law, ensuring sustainability and full legal recognition.

Following the motion I sponsored and sustained legislative engagements with the Honourable Minister of Works, His Excellency Engr. Dave Umahi, the Federal Government has commenced intervention on the deplorable Obiaruku–Obinomba–Ebedei–Umutu Road.

As a result, reconstruction works have already begun, with significant portions of the road rehabilitated, and work is still actively ongoing to ensure full restoration of this critical infrastructure linking our communities. 

Two years may have passed, but our journey is far from over. I remain committed to attracting life-transforming projects and defending the interests of our constituency. The road ahead is clear, and my resolve is unwavering. I will also continue to partner with the Delta State Government, relevant stakeholders and all well meaning Ndokwa sons and daughters to ensure our collective interests are presented and followed up till fruition. 

Together, we will build a greater Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency.
