On 21st of February, Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, the esteemed Member Representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, presented a petition on behalf of Lynpat Solicitors. This petition addresses the negligence of Orbit Marine and Energy Services Ltd concerning a Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contract awarded for the construction of the Okpai Shoreline protection and landing jetty.
The contract, valued at 6,178,174,054.53 naira, was granted to Orbit Marine & Energy on 20th April 2012, more than a decade ago, yet it remains unfulfilled. This abandonment has inflicted hardship upon the community, as the perennial erosion continues to erode the shoreline unabated, posing a perpetual threat to lives and properties.
The petition seeks to address the reasons for the contractor’s abandonment and seeks accountability and urgent action to address the perilous situation caused by the neglect of this essential project.
Consequently, the petition has been forwarded to the House Committee on Public Petitions for thorough scrutiny and appropriate actions.
