On 17th October 2024, the House of Representatives successfully passed the second reading of a consolidated bill titled "A Bill for an Act for the Mandatory Procurement (First Option) of Locally Made Products, Goods, and Services by Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs)". The bill, co-sponsored by Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi (Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency), Hon. Obi Aguocha (Ikwuano/Umuahia North/ South Federal Constituency), and Hon. Jesse Okey–Joe Onuakalusi (Oshodi-Isolo II Federal Constituency), seeks to prioritize the procurement of locally produced goods and services by MDAs.
During the proceedings, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, read the long title of the bill without debate, after which the bill was unanimously passed for the second reading.
