HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PAYS TRIBUTE TO HON. CHIEF EMEKE ADIBELI UKPE

On 15th October 2024, the House of Representatives observed a solemn one-minute silence in honour of Hon. Chief Emeke Adibeli Ukpe, a beloved leader from Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, who passed away on Wednesday, 9th October 2024. This announcement was made by Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, the Member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani, and was read aloud by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, during the plenary session on the floor of the House.

Hon. Chief Ukpe was a respected statesman and leader with a long history of service to his people and the state. He served as Chairman of Ndokwa West Local Government from 1999 to 2002, then as Transition Chairman from 2003 to 2004, before being re-elected Local Government Chairman for another term from 2004 to 2006. His leadership and commitment to public service led to his further election as a member of the Delta State House of Assembly, representing Ndokwa West from 2007 to 2011.

A man of integrity and dedication, Hon. Chief Ukpe was revered for his contributions to the development and upliftment of his constituency and Delta State at large. His efforts in local governance and as a legislator were instrumental in advancing initiatives that benefited the people, particularly in areas of infrastructure, youth empowerment, and economic development.

Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, in his address, expressed deep sorrow at the passing of such a remarkable figure, describing Hon. Chief Ukpe as a "pillar of leadership and a true advocate for the people." He further acknowledged that the legacy of Hon. Chief Ukpe will continue to inspire generations of leaders from Ndokwa/Ukwuani and beyond.

The House, in recognition of his service and the impact of his loss, stood in unity for a moment of silence, reflecting on his contributions and extending heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Ndokwa/Ukwuani and Nigeria at large. The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, called on members to remember the sacrifices of leaders like Hon. Chief Ukpe, who dedicated their lives to public service.
